During my time at Lightform, I got to be part of the device testing and research. The team frequently test the device ‘LF1’. Most of the time, the tests are to figure out the range and the limit of the device’s censor and vision capabilities. Some tests were purely focused on the software sturdiness. Other times, the tests are merely for the fun of using the tech itself.

Camera Vision + Software

LF1 was the first product I’ve used while working with the team at Lightform. It so happened to be the very first commercial version of Lightform as well.  In the process of learning the tools, I’ve also familiarized myself with the fundamentals of projection mapping. I quickly learned that Lightform software in combination with the hardware (LF1) makes it super easy to set up a project and iterate as you go.

The LF1 works with the projector as it’s “second eye” with dual vision, you can create a bit map and create an average range from black to white values. With this bitmap, users can then map artwork/design onto the objects in front of the projector and start lighting the scene!
